Welcome to a new year, a new week, and a new combination of whispers, invitations, and opportunities in our cosmos. This week, Mercury completes its retrograde and begins moving forward once again, and Mars joins the Sun in the grounded Earth sign of Capricorn.
Our first week of the new year invites us to look to this year ahead, to reframe our desires for the coming 12 months, and to devote ourselves to the vision we decide on or, perhaps, the vision that decided on us.
Mercury Retrograde Ends
Mercury finishes its retrograde and moves forward once again on January 1, 2024, a synchronistic way to begin the new year.
Retrogrades arrive when we are ready to see things in a new way, when we are ready to be shown from a new vantage. They invite new perspectives of hopes, beliefs, and the building of our lives. They are an opportunity to rewrite the inner scripts that we live within and reframe the narratives that hold us as we move through the world. And as Mercury stations direct, it does so with much to reveal.
Mercury will remain in Sagittarius until January 13, 2024. Sagittarius is the seeker of the zodiac. It is expansive, growth-oriented, adventurous, and forever inviting us to peer beyond the narratives of what we have deemed possible for ourselves and to explore what awaits beyond the horizon.
Mercury is our mind. It is the way we process information and the perspectives through which we do this. It is our inner dialogue, our learning, our communicating. As the mind holds constructs, ideas, and stories of possibility, we look at the world through the boundaries of those very constructs, ideas, and stories. The mind, and therefore Mercury, is the lens we see through as we move through the world, shaping what we see.
Mercury stationing direct in Sagittarius invites us to peer and step beyond some of those stories. The ones that were too narrow for us, too restricting, misaligned. The ones that were perhaps never ours, inherited from our upbringing or taken in from the messaging of the world around us. It reminds us that possibilities await us beyond these ideas. Entire realities live beyond these narratives.
Mercury stationing direct invites us to stretch out and reach our hopes, dreams, visions, and possibilities, whether they are big or small, into the outside world.
Mars Enters Capricorn
January 4, 2024, holds the movement of Mars into Capricorn, where it will join the Sun. It will remain there until February 12, 2024.
Mars is our motivation, our will, our force, and our drive. It is our motor and the passions that fuel that motor into action.
Capricorn, a Saturn-ruled earth sign, is the long-term devotion to, and grounded building of, our vision. It acts on purpose, intentional, disciplined, and patient.
As Mars shifts into Capricorn, it complements Mercury in Sagittarius in its invitations, although the archetypes differ in style. Mercury in Sagittarius invites us to reach into our most aligned and meaningful visions and dreams. Mars in Capricorn offers the grounded ambition to begin creating our visions in reality. It brings a patient, committed, and intentional energy to our movement and actions. It brings long-term motivation, sustained drive, and inspiration to begin taking small steps.
Your Invitation
This week holds a synchronistic, clear, and motivating invitation to dream and to build. To let the dreams that come from your heart reveal themselves to you. To begin building the structures so that they may reach into your tangible reality, too. It invites us to reach into inspiration with such intimacy and truth that imbues and guides each step.
Whereas Sagittarius asks us to stretch us beyond our expired narratives of possibility, Mars remains in Capricorn for the whole of January and more, offering a beautiful chapter of time to ground into our long term building.
